    Our Commercial Banking Summer Internships located in Chicago, Illinois, offer great work experience to compliment your classroom learning and career goals. We are devoted to finding, selecting and training interns who will make a positive impact on our company. Intern program activities allow you an opportunity to meet and network with company executives, employees, and fellow interns, as well as learn more about banking and the financial industry. Internship positions are available within our Illinois Commercial Banking and Commercial Real Estate lines of business.


    Our objective is for the 2019 Commercial Banking interns to be considered for full-time employment with the 2020 Commercial Banking Training Program (CBTP). Further details are outlined below.



    Specific internship responsibilities will be determined closer to your start date and depend on the needs of the department. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

    • Learning the basics of commercial lending and financial services
    • Assisting with portfolio management and business development
    • Credit file maintenance, financial analysis, and research
    • Tracking and maintaining prospect database/lists
    • Developing and distributing materials or presentations
    • Supporting various projects throughout the summer

    INTERN PROGRAM ACTIVITIES (anticipated, subject to change): Weekly, June - early August

    • Orientation Kickoff featuring panel of former interns
    • Social event with internal intern alumni
    • Informational Session series with Bank executives from across the organization
    • Introduction and meeting with our President & CEO, Larry D. Richman
    • Commercial Banking Training Program (CBTP) Workshop & Shadow Day - learn more about post-graduate career opportunities
    • Shadowing Program with departments across the organization
    • Volunteer opportunity with a local non-profit organization - head offsite to teach financial literacy lessons to grade school children
    • Networking opportunities to connect you with other interns and PrivateBank employees


    • 10-12 week duration desired, flexible start and end dates
    • 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday

    • Opportunity to attend weekly intern program activities


    • Finance, Accounting, and/or Economics major(s) desired
    • Spring 2020 graduate, or earlier, at the time of internship
    • Bachelors degree earned by graduation
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 achieved by graduation
    • Preferably two Accounting courses taken by graduation
    • Strong MS Office skills
    • Solid verbal and written communication skills
    • Interest in applying for the 2020 Commercial Banking Training Program (CBTP)*


    *Commercial Banking interns will be considered to interview for the 2020 Commercial Banking Training Program, likely before their summer internship ends. Intern must meet the requirements of the CBTP, or be on track to meet the requirements of the CBTP by graduation. Internship performance and manager’s feedback will also be considered when making interview selections. CBTP interviews are not guaranteed. Please see additional details regarding the CBTP below.




    The Commercial Banking Training Program, based in Chicago, Illinois, is a key component to the development of our team of commercial bank relationship managers. Growing and developing top talent is one of our corporate values. It is the launching pad for a career in providing high-quality commercial banking services to middle market companies.


    The Program

    • 18-24 month training program including classroom learning and practical application
    • Taught by professionals from our organization as well as select industry and topic experts
    • Classroom phase: accounting, finance, credit analysis, business writing, financial modeling, relevant computer skills
    • Practical experience: 60- to 90-day rotations with lending groups across the bank such as general commercial, commercial real estate, health care, construction and engineering, security alarm, private banking, and for-profit education.

    The program is designed to provide you with the skills you will need throughout your professional career, including sales, learning how to build your professional brand, and negotiation training. At the same time, you will gain real-world experience working alongside seasoned commercial middle market bankers. You will gain in-depth product knowledge in the areas of financing, treasury management, private banking, foreign exchange and derivatives.

    Upon completion of the training program, individuals are anticipated to be placed on a banking team subject to business needs, performance and individual interests.


    Individuals in the CBTP are full-time employees and eligible for company benefits and paid time off.



    • College degree required, preferably with minimum two classes in accounting
    • Minimum GPA of 3.0 desired
